On 17 May 2021, City of Sanctuary held the Scotland launch of the new College of Sanctuary Resource pack in an online event hosted by the College Development Network (CDN).
The Resource Pack, which outlines the process of becoming recognised with a College of Sanctuary Award and includes a wealth of powerful case studies from campuses across the UK can be downloaded here.
We were very pleased that over 30 attendees across Scotland participated in the Zoom event to hear presentations from colleagues and to connect with each other.
We were welcomed to the session by Suzanne Marshall, Curriculum and Teaching Lead at CDN and heard from the following four speakers:
- An overview: City of Sanctuary and the Colleges of Sanctuary resources – Sara Trewhitt, City of Sanctuary
- Journey towards accreditation as a College of Sanctuary – Paul Vincent, Gower College, Swansea
- Scottish Wider Access Programme and support for refugee students in FE/HE – Paula Christie, SWAP West and Osman Abbas, SWAP student representative.
- ESOL and Transitions courses, Rasha Tindal, Glasgow Clyde College
Sara Trewhitt described plans for the next steps of the stream including the formation of a steering committee, and further online events.
The full recording of the event is available on the College Development Network online platform here: https://cdnvirtual.scot/events/colleges-of-sanctuary-launch-event/
